Description
ABCDEF draws and paints frenetically and in surprising ways. Whether he’s embarking on a series of extremely rich, complex and colorful murals, or intervening almost invisibly on containers and other structures, his experimental work quickly becomes familiar. As usual, he intervened in Besançon, taking into account the location – here the river tunnel, the Doubs and the mineralogical aspect of the city – to create against or with the support he chose. In the tunnel, the artist created a series of nine paintings that punctuate the gallery for the duration of a crossing. These large rectangles, painted white, are interspersed with dots and play with the particularities of the rock and are reflected in the Doubs.

Biographie
The reason there’s no portrait of abcdef is that abcdef started out as a graffiti artist in 2000, and his anonymity – abcdef, seriously, what a name! – has made perfect sense ever since. His works are mostly abstract drawings, often minimalist and sometimes conceptual. They appear either on random exterior walls or on small sheets of paper. Photographic documentation and presentation of outdoor drawings play an important role in the artist’s practice. That’s why abcdef publishes zines, small DIN A5 booklets that present certain series of works.
Serial production is another characteristic of this artist’s work.
